Okay, this image was taken
looking through the catalytic converter. Note the melted area in the
center. A healthy cat substrate looks like a ceramic honeycomb. This is
where the Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium interact with the un-burned
hydrocarbons from the exhaust to create a cleaner emission and
environment. Now you understand why these little puppies are so
expensive. Misfires can cause the overheating of the substrate which was the
most likely
cause for this problem.
